Class Notes:
 

 

Big Ideas:       1- Foot work comes FIRST!

                          2- If you have the footwork, check your posture.

                          3- Then add hips!

                          4- Then add arms. (show me your rings)

                          5- Finally, add expression!

 

 

UN-Weighted Hip Accents (used w/: step/touch or 1-2-3-touch)

     It all comes back to footwork First! Once you step touch, you can add on unweighted hip accents: hip lifts, drops, & twists.

 

 

Example: step right foot flat, touch left ball of foot near right- the left hip would have the accent as your unweighted left leg ‘touches’. (remember to stay in basic posture!)

 

 

Weighted Hip Accents  (used with: walking & Basic Arabic/Basic One)

    Weighted Hip Accents include: Bumps, Figure 8s to the back, mayas, & weighted twists. Remember to NOT use your full range of motion on hip twists.

 

 

Example: step right foot FLAT & accent right hip. (the heel MUST be FLAT on the ground, knees bent & in basic posture)
