Belly Dancing for Fitness and Fun (14 yr - Adult women)

Want the latest craze in dance exercise? Come join the fun in this exciting, new, non-impact class for everyone! Not only is this a great dance to learn, it also tones muscles and burns calories while exploring new ways to move your body. You will improve your flexibility, balance and posture. Discover a different side of yourself and enjoy a girl's night out. This class has moved to a mirrored Studio at RecPlex. Min 9/Max 20. (CS)

CLASS NOTES: 

 

Big Ideas:       1- Foot work comes FIRST!

                          2- If you have the footwork, check your posture.

                          3- Then add hips!

                          4- Then add arms. (show me your rings)

                          5- Finally, add expression!

 

UN-Weighted Hip Accents (used w/: step/touch or 1-2-3-touch)

     It all comes back to footwork First! Once you step touch, you can add on unweighted hip accents: hip lifts, drops, & twists.

 

Example: step right foot flat, touch left ball of foot near right- the left hip would have the accent as your unweighted left leg ‘touches’. (remember to stay in basic posture!)

 

Weighted Hip Accents  (used with: walking & Basic Arabic/Basic One)

    Weighted Hip Accents include: Bumps, Figure 8s to the back, mayas, & weighted twists. Remember to NOT use your full range of motion on hip twists.

 

Example: step right foot FLAT & accent right hip. (the heel MUST be FLAT on the ground, knees bent & in basic posture)

session 2's weekly notes (March - May)

Week 1 - Intro to the first few moves. If you work on your glute squeezes- you will be ahead of the lesson during week 2 when we learn the hip drop!

 

Week 2 - Review of week 1 + all levels options. Intro to hip drop!

 

Week 3 - We did some prep work for our class choreography.

 

Week 4 - The start of the choreography! "Ana Ahebbek" by Hakim.

There are only 5 parts to this choreography. We learned: Intro & Music/Jump

 

Week 5 - Don't forget a CD for the class song! We will lean part A.

 

Week 6 - We went over part B. Only one more part to learn! Great job ladies!

 

Week 7 - The last part of the choreography! We did it! :D
