BellyDance with Zayna!
Zayna is a Rak Sharqi/Belly Dance instructor, performer, & event organizer in the nw suburbs of Chicago.
Zayna's Teaching Style:
Having a background in fitness, Zayna's classes are fitness based.
She has earned two certifications from AFAA (Aerobic & Fitness Association of America):
Certified Personal Trainer (1999), & Group Fitness Instructor (2001).
The first 10-15 minutes of class focuses on the muscles, stretching, and warming up the body.
Then the focus is switched to isolations of the arms, shoulders, ribs, & torso.
Next, the main focus is on the hips.
Class ends with combinations, lines, or veil work.
Zayna's classes encourage your own style to come through.
The BellyDancer's job is to interpret the music, we all do this different ways,
so feel free to express yourself.
Please don't compare yourself to anybody else in class.
We all have different body types, dance backgrounds, & injuries.
Many variations are given so you may choose the ones you like!
Having a BA in Education, Zayna realizes that not everybody learns in the same way.
She takes steps in her classes to engage all types of learners. These things include:
*While teaching, she always wears bracelets on her right wrist. Sometimes it is hard to watch a teacher dancing in a mirror, then have them turn around. So the visual effect of seeing 'the bracelet hand' has helped some student with arm placement.
*After classes, all class notes and combinations are available at the front of class if you would like to copy them. If you learn better from taking notes- this will help you. Taking notes also helps when you are practicing at home.
*Before & after class- Zayna is available for questions, if you have them- ask them.
*If there is something that may help you learn better in class, or if you have any type of injury that you feel may get in the way of your dancing- you can talk to Zayna directly, or email: egyptdancer@hotmail.com
